Longing…

Every season has it’s beauty.. But spring time has and always will be something special to me. Waiting for the long winter to loosen its grip on the shivering earth and let the sun melt its cold icy hold on it - letting the flowers and trees once again come to life and fill our souls and hearts with song.

I am longing for springtime – and it can’t come fast enough. So while I am sitting here in the cold darkness of the winter evenings – I close my eyes and hear the birds singing with joy over yet another fruitful season ahead.

I found this poem which I thought was very fitting …

Once a day and sometimes more
I look out my day dream door
To see if spring is out there yet
I'm really anxious, but mustn't fret.

I see the snow a melting down
and lots of mud and slush around
I know the grass will surely sprout

Forgetfulness…

Is something we all suffer from at times. Some more than others. I wonder if we are more forgetful nowadays compared to earlier times?? There are so many things that fill our every day life now. We tend to pack in as much as possible so we dont miss a thing – as we all feel we have too short of a time here. And now with all the new tecnologie that can help us keep up with our appointments – we tend not to use our overloaded brains to fill this information. Instead we rely on our gagets to tell us what time it is to do what ever from minute to minute. And if we loose this gaget…then what?? We feel totally lost as we can’t remember which day our doctor’s appointment was…or when we were supposed to take the dog to the vets… or what time did we have the lunch date with our friend…

But this is not a new phenomenom for us in the 20’th century. And I’m not sure if it’s going to get any better – unless we take the step and wake up to smell the flowers. And we all  do need to step back – lower our sholders and take in the beauty that surrounds us – and take more notice of our family and friends.

There is another forgetfulness tho… and it is wide spread among the male gender (go figure..) Now most you married women know about this so there is no need for me to repeat it.. but I started thinking about this when I looked through my photos from this summer! This is just a month after our wedding :-) My hubby was going to make some toast (I think it also had some garlic spread on it) but got busy with something else and “forgot” the bread…

My husband got this recipe book for christmas. It was intended for him learning norwegian at the same time as doing something that he enjoys! As he took pastry at school I think it was a great idea for him :-) I have been looking through this book – and oooooh what delish looking cookies there are!! x-) I have already cleared the freezer for him getting it ready to be filled up… “hint hint, nudge nudge, wink wink” 

Maybe if I am lucky – and have been a good girl – he might surprise me when I get home from work one day… :-)

Growing grass…

Yes I do know that I have a lot of grass outside my house… BUT that does not help when it’s winter outside and snow up to your knees.. And why are you growing grass you ask???

This is a one of my small new projects for 2010 and it is growing cat grass for little MissT (Misty) This is what I call babysteps… It is going to be fun trying out different things – even tho it is very simple. I saw this at the store today and thought “why not?” and it is good for the cat too… So here is my first attempt at growing cat grass! This is day one. Filling the box with water… It should be starting to grow within 2-3 days…

I feel like a little kid!! Sitting here waiting for it to start growing…but it is exiting!!

Cutest puppies…

It’s wednesday January 13’th and still dark outside when I get home from work. I would have loved to be out to take some photos – but I don’t have a good enough camera to get the photos I want. (I did leave a hint or five to my hubby about my wish-list for my birthday…. ;-) Anyways – I went through my files on my laptop instead…

I found some pictures of puppies taken this summer – and they were the cutest ones ever! It is Chihuahua puppies – and they will melt even the coldest ice heart! Just check them out…

This little beige cutie was the shy one. He was also the one who looked like he had eaten up all the food!! The name I gave this puppy was “Pugsy”

And here is the tough one of the liter… He was running around nudging all the other dogs and puppies! I called him “Ozzy” He got up to what ever mischief he could find making his days very interesting.

Here “Ozzy” is pushing little “Pugsy” around…  Not being very nice!

The smallest one of the liter found it safest to curl up in DJ’s lap.Lil’ Coco keeping out of trouble and keeping trouble away from her… :-))

We both wanted to take all of them with us home…

Star of the week…

Settling in continues…

Surviving second night and third day! We had a bit more sleep this night as Misty was busy with other things….. I’m not sure if the cat was house trained at her former family’s house – but we did find some pee and poop in the livingroom this morning. She had not given us any signals of wanting to go out – so I guess we will have to get a box and some catlitter for her.

But for now we got her a new food and water bowl (it will do till we get a nicer one ;-)

– and the most fun of all – a cathouse with 3 white mice hanging in the opening ! ! Fun fun fun … Tinka tried to join in the fun too – but I don’t think Misty quite agreed with that. No this toy was only hers! I guess she is paying Tinka back for not wanting to share her bone yesterday.

anyway she said….you are too big to fit into my new house ! ! !

 

She also got another little toy which fell to her liking.. yet another toy Misty did not want to share with Tinka. So to prevent the dog from feeling left out – she got a fresh new chewing bone! (note, this time she did not mind sharing with Misty…strange)

But at the moment – this little toy was more interesting. They did have a race tho…from the new cathouse and out in the hallway – and then back again! Cat won! jumped up on her new house and had a look of victory on her face!

Welcome Misty ! ! !

For the time being we can say welcome to the new addition to our household. So untill anyone claims her – she will be staying with us.

We made it through a night and a day! We had made a place for Misty out in the hallway where she has her food and water. Put a soft blanket for her to sleep on so she would be comfortable. It took just about 1 minute before she started crying… Guess who had the softest heart and had to go out and get her???? Yes… Popeye at your service! So last night we had a third party in our bed. I have to add that I did not have a good night sleep… A cat purring through the night is not something that I am used to. A dog snoring and whimpering in her sleep – yes.. purring and suckeling on the duvey – no..

Most of the day Misty has been followed around by Tinka. She will not leave her alone. I don’t know if Tinka is afraid that Misty is going to run away – or if it is just Tinka’s mothering instincts that has kicked in… Still they are getting used to each other, and I think they are doing a great job at it.

Now the next thing we have to deal with when it comes to mysterious Misty – is her using the furniture to sharpen her claws…..

New member of the family…

I guess the only thing I can say is that I cracked under the pressure! The cat finally came in the house after spending a couple of weeks in the garage… She was sitting outside the door crying and Popeye found out that he wasn’t going to let it spend yet another night out doors… This was going to be interesting tho.. how would the dog take it?? We let the dog and the cat in the same room and within 3 minutes the dog was licking the cat and the cat was purring… I stood no chance in the matter… I had no say in this anymore…the cat was accepted into the household by dog and husband… We have put up posters of the cat incase anyone is looking for her… untill then she is staying – and we still need a fitting name for her ! ! !

I wonder when the cat will get tired of the dog cleaning it constantly?! At least Tinka isn’t trying to eat the little kitty :-)

A little visiter…

We had a little visiter this weekend! It had been such a long time since last we saw my little sweetheart! Since it was so cold out we spent our time together inside doing various fun things. First she wanted to help clean out christmas… Well….half way she and Popeye ended up in a “sword fight” ! ! !

Yeh great fun !

We baked some gingerbread (but seems like the camera was on strike at that moment..) and did some playing on the laptop. You know… I get the strangest feeling that I am getting old when I can’t keep up with a 7 year old’s computer skills….:S (well hopefully it will take a little while longer…)

At least she is willing to learn some of the “old” hobbies… knitting :-)

Before heading home she had to say hello to our garage occupant ! Aaaah cutie !!!

The garage occupant…

A stray cat has hereby ovetaken my garage! No longer is my car the soul ruler…but has to share the space with the kitty! It found its way in there a couple of days before christmas and haven’t left since. With the cold we’ve been having the last three weeks (-12 till –20) I had to provide it with a warm place to sleep. If it hadn’t been for my dog Tinka – I could have had it inside… But as the dog looooves to chase cats – there is no other way to do it then to keep it out there till the SPCA has room for it.. (we have tried to find someone who can take care of it…but no luck so far)

From the look of it – the cat can’t be more than 9-12 months old.. She is the cutest cat tho! Sooooo soft and shiny fur – and very very cuddely!

A good thing tho having er in the garage is this: She catches mice!!! And she had caught one again today! She is doing such a good job keeping them out of the house. So we are happy with the job she is doing – and she is happy having a dry and warm place to stay. Hopefully it won’t be too long till she can find a new home where she will be loved and taken good care of …

So while we all are waiting – there might be some more updates on this stray (Don’t have a name for her so if you have an idea on what we can call her – please leave a note :-) )

 

 

My first “creative” attempt of the year…

Well I’m not really known for being very creative (maybe that explains my occupation?) Anyway – I do try from time to time! This year I have started on a sweater for my hubby! Now I don’t know how this is going to end up as I do not have a clue how to put the end result together to one piece (meaning attaching the arms to the body) but I will deal with that problem when I get there… So far I’m just starting out – and yet I haven’t grown tired ! ! ! Whoohooo… Maybe I will be able to finish a whole sweater this time??

I feel that I am off to a good start – and having my hubby rooting for me to finish it ( I am freezing my Canadian ass of here!!) I might just do it ;-)))

Naked beauty…

Outside my office window there is a big oak tree wich during spring- and summer time is amazing! But looking at it today even in winter time – standing there all naked and robbed of its majestic summer coat – it still looks beautiful! Waiting in anticipation of yet another years sweet spring awakening!

Shivering in the cold winter air – reaching higher to grasp just a little more light and maybe steal a little warmth from the sun – I find our Norwegian nature just as breath taking in the winter as it is during summer…

New update…

In my attempt to organize my blog – I now have made two external links to my different web pages. These are: Dogs World and Everyday Life. Post and links about my dog and pets will be directed to the respective site… same with leisure and travel post with my love and family.

Light in the cold dark winter..

At the moment I am spending some time doodeling around on my laptop. It’s really cold outside – and by the time I get home from work – the darkness has surrounded us.. So at the moment there aren’t a lot of other things that catches my interests. Of course there are loads of stuff that I should be doing instead of this – but with my attention span being no longer than 10 min at a time – I need to do what ever tickles my fancy – hehe  I’m slowly starting to get a hang of Gimp (first time using it today..) and here is the result of my first attempt::

I have a LOT to learn about bloggin and I appreciate all the help and tips anyone can/will give me :-)

Ps… I think I need a new camera soon… Been dreaming about a Nikon DSLR…
